Hi
everyone. My tutorial contribution is on the
Printing of Labels, those including text only.
John's catalogue has been used throughout most
of the tutorials, so I will use it also.
Text Labels are: Address Labels, Lever Arch
Labels, 35mm Slide Labels and the CD tray, cover
and round label also have some text combined
with the image (next
tutorial).

|
Printing of Labels is prompted by dropping the
toolbar list from 'Tools'
|
|

|
or
using the icon as shown in the left graphic.
|
|

|
If
one tries to simply bring the prompt without
doing a few things first, we get the pop up
message to the left, that tells us we have
nothing set up to print.
|
|

|
First, before attempting the printing of Labels
(or any printing), one has to set up the
catalogue properties to allow this. In the
properties we chose which fields are to be
included in the Labels or printouts. I suggest
you view the Help files at the CML Website to
find out how many fields are included in the
type of Label you are about to print. I ticked
for this first Label, the fields you see to the
left, in the properties of the catalogue.
For every Printing task, properties have to be
setup. The reason is that not all templating and
contents apply in the same manner to all
printing.

|

|
After I set the properties (above) I decide to
use the first Category of the Catalogue (Alfa
Romeo) as the tutorial input. I click this
Category in the tree/directory area to highlight
it and it brings its images into the Image area.
(see left)
|
|

|
Clicking the Labels Icon (as shown above in the
third graphic) brings the Labels screen. On the
left graphic one can see the way the labels are
pre-designed, and this is how they will print in
the media (read more on the media to use
below).
In
the example on the left one can see that the
first label has 4 fields showing, the other two
labels have 3. This is because in the data area,
John had not filled the data for the 4th field
and for the 2nd and 3rd vehicles in the category
I am using (Alfa Romeo). The properties were
however ticked to include 4 fields. I could have
ticked 6 fields there, but maybe these type of
Labels only allow for 4 fields to be shown, in
that case the surplus fields, albeit ticked in
the properties screen would be ignored.

|
By
default, the Labels screen shows the first of
the labels droplist choices, the Address Labels.
The code (Avery J8159) one sees in front of the
name of the Label is the recommended Avery Label
to use as Media).
|
|

|
I
want to change and print Lever Arch File Labels
now.
I
click the choice in the droplist of the Labels
screen and
|
|

|
Immediately the Lever Arch File Label Template
loads in the Label screen area, this time and as
per graphic on the left, the display appears to
suit the corresponding media - Avery Arch Lever
File Labels J8171). The number of fields in this
type of label can also be different from the
other labels (so check with the help page of the
CML Website for these parameters). Likewise, the
properties for the specific label would have to
be reset.
|
|

|
If
I use the droplist to pick the 35mmslide label
choice,
|
|

|
this type template also loads showing the way
the label will print in the recommended media.
This (the 35mmslide label) is the best example
of WHY the properties have to be checked between
types of labels and reports: it is so small to
fit the photographic slide mounts that it only
fits 2 or 3 fields, so trying to include a 4th
field would be impossible unless you don't want
to read what you print. Again there is specific
media to serve this label output from Avery.
|
|

|
With any of the Labels loaded and the screen
open, you will find the 'zoom' lupe at the
toolbar and dropping its list gives us options
to change the display. Note that this only
changes the display so you can view your data in
the screen. it does not alter in any way the
output. The output is static and has to be
because it is templated to serve a specific
media type.
|
|

|
To
Print the Label of choice, one clicks the Label
screen 'Printer' icon at the toolbar (note this
is the printer icon of the Label Screen).
Remember to load the media when ready to do
this. I recommend that you test the print in a
blank A4 and with it ensure that your printer
loading tray is not out of line (normally the
slider of printer trays can be out at times and
this could allow you to load the sheets of paper
media slightly out resulting in undesirable
output when dealing with the MORE SPECIFIC
Labels, such as the CD trays, CD covers and 35mm
slide Labels).
|
|

|
The reading of the zoom factor at the bottom of
the Label screen is applicable to the zoom lupe
droplist choice and does not interfere with the
output size at all.
