1 - How to create a Catalogue

First I open the Cataloguer Software, then I focus attention in the area circled in this image to the right

Using the Menu  I click on 'File-New' or use the 'New' Icon just below it

This prompts a window to open, (called 'save new catalogue file' and this is normally the 'My Documents' folder), which is my choice to to place the folder where I will be storing my catalogues.

Obviously this can be anywhere, but for simplicity sake let's keep it default.

Ideally one should create first a 'folder' where to store neatly all catalogues done.

To create the folder at this stage, you can either Click the middle icon at the top of the little window that opened (the icon on hover gives a tool tip that says 'create new folder') or, right click the white empty area inside the 'My Documents' folder, and choose 'New-Folder'.

You can name new folder anything you fancy, I named mine 'MY CATALOGUES'.

Then, I opened the Folder called 'MY CATALOGUES' by clicking it and typed the name for my first catalogue.

Note - I'll close the software here to show how to Open the Catalogue that has been created in the next step, but of course you wouldn't have to close the catalogue and could continue working on it.

To open the Catalogue that I just created in the above mentioned steps:
Open the software as normal, and go for the 'open' icon as shown in the graphic....or use the toolbar droplist 'File-Open'

Again this opens the same place in your computer where you saved your catalogues folder (I kept it at 'My Documents' as you recall), click the folder where the catalogues will be neatly stored (that's the 'My Catalogues' folder for my example) to open it

And inside I find the first Catalogue I created above, called 'My First Catalogue' (all catalogues created have the software Icon, a blue sphere for easy identification).

I click it to highlight it and click the open button (or double click the catalogue name)

A little popup window appears saying 'please wait', while the catalogue loads)

Done! your catalogue opens in the right handside (where the cursor appears in the graphic to the left - that's the catalogue area by the way).

Hint on the interfase for future tutorials-

  1. Area under where it says 'My computer' is exactly that - your computer section....here you'll be browsing your computer to find the images for the catalogue.

  2. The middle large white area to the right of the 'my computer' area is the working area where all the images will appear after you browsed the 'My Computer' section and located the folder containing the Images.

  3. the right handside area is the catalogue area itself. Only the chosen images from the working area will be transferred to the catalogue, to be dealt with later.
